FAQ
Vaccines:
All dogs are required to have core vaccinations starting at the age of 6 weeks. The following list is the guidelines set out by the American Animal Hospital Association.
Rabies
At 16 weeks your dog is ready to be vaccinated against rabies. This is required by law. After 1 year your dog will be re-vaccinated with a 3 year rabies vaccine. O'neill city ordinance requires all dog owners to submit their dog's rabies certificate with the O'neill Police Department.
DAPP
Between the age of 6 weeks and 16 weeks, your dog will need at least 3 doses of this combination vaccine. These can be spaced out by 2 to 4 weeks. Every year after, your dog will need a booster.
This vaccine covers the most common types of viral infections. They are Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, and Parvo.
Bordetella
This vaccine is not a core vaccine. However if you plan on boarding, or grooming your dog, your dog will be required to have this vaccine. It protects your dog from "kennel cough" which is a highly contagious respiratory virus.
Leptospirosis
This is a potentially fatal bacterial infection that is spread through water contaminated with Leptospira. It affects the liver and kidneys, and can be spread to humans. Thankfully there is a vaccine to protect your dog.
